The Mexican Lily is an evergreen plant that produces grey-green, sword shaped foliage. During Spring and Summer, gorgeous, large flower spikes appear high above the foliage creating a magnificent display of large, pink, bell shaped flowers.
Mexican Lily is best placed in a position of full sunlight. This evergreen can cope with a range of soil types. It is drought and frost tolerant while having a slow to medium growth rate. Simply one of the world's most magnificent hardy plants, very long-lived in a well-drained sheltered spot but very few good seeds are ever collected.
Pretty Wild Seeds are registered with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) under number 7529, so you can have confidence in both our products and advice. Beschorneria yuccoides (Mexican lily) will reach a height of 0.5m and a spread of 1.5m after 10-20 years, it’s suggested uses include Architectural, City, Drought Tolerant, Foliage only, Low Maintenance & Sub-Tropical.
For best results sow immediately onto a good soil-based compost, cover the seeds with fine grit or compost to approximately their own depth. They can be sown at any time, and germination can sometimes be quicker if kept at 15 to 20 degrees C. We sow most seeds in an unheated greenhouse and wait for natural germination, as many seeds have built-in dormancy mechanisms, often waiting for natural spring germination, hence giving them a full season of growth
For Cultivation plant inside in full light in cactus compost. Water when in growth and fertilise monthly with a balanced liquid feed. Can also be grown outside in milder climates, but will require protection from frosts.
Preferred soil type is loamy, sandy with well-drained soil drainage. Happy in acid, alkaline, neutral soil ph and loves Full Sun.
