Also known as Anthemis arvensis, Corn Chamomile one of the cheerful cornfield flowers, this very easy annual produces large, daisy-like flowers throughout summer and autumn and is highly attractive to pollinators. True chamomile is a creeping perennial plant of grassland. As well as being an annual, this cornfield equivalent instead grows upright and well branched, the stems well clothed in neat little leaves that are grey-green and highly dissected, giving them a fern-like, feathery appearance. When crushed, their scent is strong and pungent. Each plant produces a profusion of large flowers - yellow and white daisies that appear over a long season from June until September.

Sowing; Sow in the early spring or in autumn, Corn chamomile seeds can be sown directly where they are to flower at any time from late summer to mid-April but the best results are usually obtained from an early spring sowing. Germination 7 to 14 days at 21°C (70°F). It grows readily from seed sown onto preferably, light well drained soils.
Sow directly where they are to flower in a well raked bed ensuring that the soil is fine and crumbly. Scatter the seed, rake lightly and firm down well. Keep well watered and weeded in early stages.
Cultivation;Cornfield annuals including the corn chamomile can be encouraged to return every year. Simply cut back and remove dead plants after the seed has fallen. Seed can remain viable in the soil for several years. Cultivate the ground the following spring. This wildflower thrives in disturbed ground.
