Sowing & Growing
For outdoor planting, sow Parsley seeds thinly from March to July directly in the cropping area. Plant them 10mm deep in finely prepared, moist, well-drained soil that has been watered in drills spaced 30cm apart. Germination typically takes 14-21 days but may extend to 40 days. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to a spacing of 20cm.
For indoor cultivation, sow seeds 2mm deep in small pots filled with compost. Cover the seeds, water well, and place the pots in a warm location at 18-21°C. Keep them out of direct sunlight until germination occurs. Uncover the pots after germination and allow the seedlings to grow to maturity on a well-lit windowsill.
When growing Parsley, ensure that seedlings are well-watered until they are established. Insufficient water may prompt early flowering. Cloche protection enables year-round harvesting. Once established, Parsley is easy to care for and can benefit from a high-quality liquid feed. Harvest by picking a few leaves from the outer part of the plant, as it is a cut-and-come-again variety. Note that this biennial herb will need replacement after the second season, once it flowers and produces seeds.
