Nettle-Leaved Mullein, a hardy perennial growing between 90cm to 1.5m belongs in the Scrophulariaceae family and is actually one of the few truly perennial species of mullein, it has sulphur-yellow blossoms with purple and red filaments, which bloom profusely on long flower stalks in mid and late summer, above its rosettes of hairy, jagged-edged leaves which are semi-evergreen. These plants are well-adapted to cottage gardens, gravel, and rock gardens, or even naturalized areas. This is one of the better behaved Mulleins that may gently self-seed but rarely becomes a nuisance!

Sowing; For best results, sow seeds on to a good soil-based compost. Cover the seeds with the fine grit or compost to approximately their own depth. They can be sown at any time and germination can sometimes be quicker if kept at 15-20C. However, we sow most seeds in an unheated greenhouse and wait for natural germination as many seeds do have built-in dormancy mechanisms, and often wait for Spring before emerging regardless of when they are sown. But Spring sowing will obviously give them a full season of Growth if successful germination occurs.
